WRC reorganisation by FIA

Two Britons, prominent in motor sport have scooped top positions in world rallying in an FIA reshuffle aimed at injecting a positive change in the World Rally Championship. This follows close after FIA president Jean Todt's recent remark that the WRC has to "change or die".

The new president of the World Rally Commission is Jarmo Mahonen who has been responsible for making Finland's round of the WRC one of the most successful rallies ever. It was Jarmo's decision to appoint champion co-driver Robert Reid as his vice president, citing him as a "bright and good guy who now has the platform to see the sport from the other side".

Also appointed at the 3-hour general assembly meeting of the FIA in Paris on Friday was Jonathon Ashman, who comes in as president of the Rallies Commission following a successful term with the Touring Car Commission. Ashman has a competitive background in rallying.
