Petter Solberg - honarary IRDC member

The International Rally Driver's Club is delighted to announce that Petter Solberg was awarded honorary membership of the club on Saturday 18th August at RallyDay. This event forms the annual Mecca for all dyed-in-the-wool rally enthusiasts, a unique yearly occasion held at the picturesque Wiltshire circuit of Castle Combe since 2002, conveniently offering the club a chance to catch-up with the personable Norwegian on one of his rare days off in the UK; an opportunity that couldn't be missed!

RallyDay organisers had achieved a coup this year by persuading the 2003 World Rally Champion to make his debut at the UK's Premier Rally Car Show. Solberg had just returned from a gruelling 4-day tyre testing session in the vineyards and tank-testing tracks of Germany, preparing for the next round of the World Rally Championship (WRC) - Rally Deutschland this coming weekend.

Petter Solberg is one of the WRC's biggest names and was at RallyDay with the MSport team to demonstrate the Castrol Edge sponsored Ford World Rally Team Fiesta RS WRC car, becoming a firm favourite with the knowledgeable RallyDay spectators by showboating smoky doughnuts at every available opportunity!

Later in the eventful RallyDay, master of ceremonies Tony Mason; himself a long standing member of the IRDC, surprised Solberg by announcing the IRDC's award. They were then joined on the RallyDay stage by 5-times British Rally Champion Jimmy McRae, president of the IRDC who presented the framed certificate to the surprised and delighted driver, welcoming Petter into the club.
